of the evening — from placement and timing to the flow of your guests.

During the celebration, guests step into the studio for a few minutes. They’re directed, photographed,

and shown their finished black-and-white portrait while they’re still with us.

I’m Janice Smith, the portrait photographer behind

Black & White Portraits.

I’ve spent years photographing people, but I’m still fascinated by what happens when someone stops thinking about the camera.

At a wedding, I may only have a few minutes with each person. That’s enough time to notice how someone holds their partner. Who makes whom laugh. The glance between a parent and their grown child. The way a family naturally comes together.

I’ll take care of the direction. You just need to show up as yourself.’
